If any of you have used prednisone with dogs, did you have a similar experience?. Super high protein levels did not work out well for us (pudding poops - you know what I mean), one manufacturer did well for a while, but then our boy started loosing hair so we now avoid any product produced by a certain.
She has only had steriods for a reaction that an antihistimine did not clear up and only for a short period. I have allergies myself and l people she takes after me. The med she is on now is a steriod/antihistimine/cough suppressant. She has allergies/sensitivities. We have a small dog (10 lbs) who is on a predisone mix pill right now. Of course she is alot smaller. LOL Good luck with your poch - I know that has to be frustrating! tina. I think I am going to have to give her a nightly dose of benadryl once she comes off this med, until whatever is in the air passes.
Treatments that do not involve a trip to the Oncologist would be steroids like Prednisolone, and pain management. If she is having problems with about a month a go my 4 year old chocolate lab was straining while having a bowel movement and I noticed excess red skin hanging out. They took x-rays and all was clear no.
Only palliative radiation is an option and we are undecided. Our 12 year old boxer has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma and the tumor is on the rib cage, pushing against a lung. Our dog is breathing very heavily and this is most likely due to the tumor pushing on the lungs as there is no fluid build up.(yet). We were given Tramadol in case our dog has signs of pain. Would Tramadol provide any help with the heavy breathing or is this simply a symptom of the lung being pushed upon?.
Our dog has a huge tumor on the top of his back.
Aside from the puppy training moments, dogs are very conscientious creatures and will not defecate inside the house unless there is a problem We have been using it diligently; however, our dog seems to have lost some control over her anal muscles because she has been pooping in the house at least once/day.
There are various causes for a dog to have a lack of bowel control and in an older dog it can be expected to occur. Your Veterinarian will be able to carry out a physical examination, blood tests and x-rays to determine the cause of the loss of bowel control. Usually the causes of loss of bowel control are trauma, tumours, abscesses, infections, neurological disorders, spinal problems or parasites. Treatment may not be possible in most cases; medical management may help in some instances. Regards Dr Callum Turner DVM.

You could try giving her mineral oil or plain tinned pumpkin to see if it would help her to go, otherwise you would need to visit your Veterinarian for a physical examination and possibly x-rays to see if there is an obstruction.

I posted last week when I was told my dog had yeast infections, and that she didn't poop for a couple of days after starting meds. Well her infected paw is healing at an astounding pace. She's on prednisone, and anti biotic, and an anti fungal pill regimen. But she's not a very happy German Shepherd.
